The Lotus Center for Wellness and Healing (TLCWH) is seeking a Graduate Counseling Intern to join the team beginning Summer 2027 (May)! The Graduate Counseling Intern will provide supervised counseling services within a private practice setting, supporting clients through individual therapy, and participating in the daily operations of a small clinical business. This role is designed for master’s-level counseling, social work, or other behavioral health-related students completing practicum or internship requirements. Interns will gain hands-on experience with clinical care, practice management, and the day-to-day professional responsibilities of outpatient therapy.

Responsibilities:

 

Individual Counseling

• Provide one-on-one psychotherapy to clients using evidence-based modalities appropriate to training level. 

• Conduct intake sessions, assessments, and collaboratively develop treatment plans under supervision.

• Collaborate with other providers or client’s support network, as needed.

 

Documentation

• Complete progress notes, treatment plans, and other clinical documentation in the practice’s electronic health record system.

 

Ethical Standards

• Maintain compliance with ethical, legal, and licensing board standards.

• Uphold confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, and your discipline’s code of ethics.

Crisis Response

• Support clients experiencing acute distress by conducting risk assessments and safety planning under supervisor guidance.

  • ** As an outpatient provider, minimal crisis management may be necessary. When applicable, you may need to support and instruct clients with accessing the appropriate level of care, which may include inpatient, residential, emergency room, etc.

 

Practice Operations and Communication

• Assist with scheduling, client onboarding, resource creation, follow-up client communication, and other administrative tasks that are in alignment with practice policies.

 

Professional Development

• Attend weekly individual supervision, case consultations, and practice-hosted trainings.

• Integrate feedback and engage in self-of-the-therapist reflection.

• Support marketing and networking efforts in the community.

 

Qualifications:

 

Academic and Clinical

• Enrollment in an accredited masters-level graduate program in counseling, social work, or other behavioral health program.

• Completion of academic prerequisites for practicum/internship placement.

• Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule that meets the requirements of your degree program, which includes obtaining the necessary clinical and non-clinical hours.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Slides), and graphic design tools (Canva and CapCut)

• Appropriate private location to provide telehealth therapy, with high-speed internet connection. 

• Comfort with telehealth platforms and digital communication tools.

• Ability to pass required background checks (Child Abuse History, Criminal Background Check, FBI Fingerprint Check).

• Completion of Mandated and Permissive Reporting in Pennsylvania.

• Familiarity with basic therapeutic skills and documentation practices.

• Maintain appropriate individual liability insurance.

 

Attributes

• Interest in outpatient therapy, private practice work, working with historically oppressed and underserved communities, or a clinical niche fitting these categories (e.g., racial trauma, identity-based trauma, religious/spiritual trauma, or similar focus area).

• Strong interpersonal skills, cultural humility and responsiveness, and an understanding of diversity-related concerns in therapeutic practice. 

• Comfortable working independently in a private practice environment.

• Compassionate and understanding character.

• Ability to analyze problems and resolve conflicts effectively.

• Commitment to ongoing professional growth and personal wellness and self-care.

Supervision & Training:

 

• Intern will receive weekly individual supervision from a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

• Opportunities for specialized training may be available.

• Performance evaluations will align with academic program requirements.

 

Schedule & Compensation:

 

• Schedule is coordinated with academic requirements and location availability.

• Though this position is unpaid, certain professional or academic memberships, certifications, and necessities may be reimbursed on a case-by-case basis.

 

Work Environment:

 

• Outpatient hybrid private practice setting, which includes in-office and telehealth sessions.

• Interns may work with a diverse caseload depending on practice specialization and client demand.
